Google Calendar is Taking Names

Or rather, giving them out.

I tried this out, on a fellow blogger. Apparently Fake Steve Ballmer is really not Steve Ballmer pretending not to be Fake Steve Ballmer, at least at his email address's name level.

Its not exactly stealthy, as I had to send a calendar invite, but it does work, helping spammers to know your true name, and magically control you.

It may be a concern to some, but, one would assume that if you assigned a first and last name to any e-mail address, they would show up in all correspondence using that address (if that is enabled in the account options). Of course, Google Calendar showing this information without asking permission explicitly is a problem.

That is precisely why I keep separate accounts for personal and what I call "internet" work. I use an entirely fake name as my id whenever I contact someone I don't know personally and whenever I post stuff that is viewable publicly. My real name is only viewable to those whom I know in real life, and for that purpose I have separate accounts.
