More Pointless Pointing Out of Features in Browsers: Chrome Pulls it Together

Just read another article about Chrome, and I kept thinking, "All these features are available in other browsers."

So much so I'm making a list and checking it twice, as per the first seven from the article:

It won’t crash.

IE8 has this feature.

It’s really fast.

This one is the only one that gets anywhere with unique due to V8 being under the hood. Still, it gets wiped out by SFX, meaning the basic WebKit Engine gets its JavaScript speed lovin' back.

You barely notice it’s there.

Customize another browser remove the buttons. In fact, F11 works wonders in IE. Or Firefox. Or Opera.

As for the tabs being above the address bar. Look at Opera's UI bar below (it is the last one with the black bar)

IE8: The lack of a Menu Bar is Awesome.

Firefox 3: I wish they would get rid of the menu like in Fullscreen mode.

Opera 9.52: This thing really disappears in fullscreen mode.

I use large amounts of key combos and the like in any web browser I use. Trends appear; i.e. the Menu bar should die a horrible death (the comparison above between IE, Firefox, and Opera is killed by that evil Menu bar in the last two), mouse gestures are addictive, and all mice should have a scroll wheel that provides epic clicking for the use of tabs.

It makes searching simpler.

Opera has custom search too; Firefox has the Awesome Bar. Sure these two don't implement as cleanly as Chrome does, but they have it. It also points out, again, why Chrome exists.

It gives you more control over tabs.

Opera can do the dragging and dropping of tabs. Firefox can do either multiple homepages or whatever you had opened last. The way it is phrased in the article is pretty much a bold faced lie.

It opens new doors on your home page.

Opera's Speed Dial, sans the bottom three.

OPERA OPERA OPERA OPERA OPERA OPERA! (& Firefox Extensions.)

The article goes on to mention seven more things, except negatives. I'm not covering these, as they are pretty much just variants of "it is in beta right now" and the like.

So there; Chrome is thoroughly unoriginal. This isn't a bad thing. In fact, this is a great thing. Chrome takes a bunch of features and slams them together. That is the point of Chrome. Create a buzz around features so that browser devs will start making sure the features that make each browser great make all browsers good.

Oh, and one more thing:

Feature Request: All Browser Devs: Kill the freaking Menu Bar!!!
